Dispensary Profile: Highlands Health/Wellness, Denver, CO

Highlands Health is located in nondescript office high-rise in Denver’s hip Highlands neighborhood. Inside, it’s bright and cheery, with a bit of a new-age feel—the walls are a bright gold, with paper stars and lanterns and a large sun mirror. The waiting room was not crowded on the Marijuana Business Reporter’s visit, but never empty.

The atmosphere is extremely friendly and warm, with casually attired employees who appear to thoroughly enjoy their workplace.

Jason Irwin, the soft spoken young owner, explained that he was a patient himself and understands the issues patients face when attempting to get help.

”Customer care is often lacking in the cannabis industry and we want to change that by increasing the quality of service offered in the Denver medical marijuana community,” he said.

Irwin is proud of the fact that Highlands Health was the first dispensary to have lab-tested cannabis at a local laboratory, Full Spectrum. “We want to ensure that our products are highest quality,” he said. “It is certified locally grown cannabis. It’s not (from) cartels. We are local, from here in Colorado.”

Irwin and his mother, Diane, were featured in the local news not long ago for their small marijuana farm in southern Colorado. http://www.kktv.com/home/headlines/79138162.html0. Diane Irwin sold her Aveda salon and moved to the country, where she and Jason bought 40 acres to grow marijuana. Diane lived in a trailer with no heat or water, cultivating her crop while trusting her son to intelligently invest their earnings. Jason’s idea was to supply his own dispensary with his own product, grown in Colorado. And that’s exactly what he did with Highlands Health.

In the large back room there are two counters for customers. A drippy, green-gray mural is painted on one wall, and the bright room offers some great views of downtown Denver.

Highlands Health offers about 20 types of strains daily, and edibles such as ice cream, granola bars, other types of baked goods, and tinctures. They are planning to create a line of non-sweet edibles soon. The display cases features some beautiful hand-made vaporizers, pipes, and other accessories.

Highlands Health and Wellness, 2727 Bryant St., Suite 420, Denver, CO. 303/455-0810. Open seven days a week, 11AM to 7 PM.
