DC Next For Medical Marijuana?
The District of Columbia may become the next to approve use of marijuana for medical purposes.
A recently-approved federal spending bill lifts a previous Congressional ban on medical marijuana that is prescribed by a physician. Washington, DC previously approved a referendum on its use in 1998.
The lifting of the Congressional ban does not mean an immediate opening. The district Council and mayor must approve the use, possession, distribution and cultivation of the drug before any retailers can open, and it’s not yet clear whether they will examine the issue.
