SavingsIt’s almost the end of 2009, which means it’s the end of the fiscal year for many non-profits and other retailers.

Now is the time to begin to make adjustments for 2010, particularly in areas that might shave a few dollars that can be pointed toward growth in the coming year.

Among the areas experts target:

1) Energy efficiency – are you switching off the lights when not in use? Do you remember to shut off the areas that don’t need to be heated or cooled when no one is there? You can realize substantial savings in this area.

2) Suppliers and Landlords – Call your services/benefits supplier and ask for a discount. In a down market, you might be surprised at the flexibility and options available. Where able, negotiate the best payment terms.

3) Communications – Investigate online alternatives to traditional phone landlines. And make e-mail the first option for all your customer service. Just remember to monitor the inbox!
